  1. What is the best way to clean secondary drains from the draining board?

    • Secondary drains (the ones under the ground) can only be cleaned effectively using high pressure water jetting equipment. Primary drains (the small ones under the sink) can be generally kept trouble-free by using an enzyme based biological cleaner such as Drain Doctor multi-surface cleaner.

It’s a good idea to periodically dismantle the drain and check it for detritus material. Never use any commercially available acid based products down these drains in an attempt to clear them. When the strong acids used in these products comes into contact with cold water the net reaction is one of incredible heat. This can easily split plastic pipe fittings apart and lead to considerable and unpleasant flooding within the property. If in doubt, call the pros.
